Dorm Activities

Holton-Hooker has many things to do during camp free time.
-
Each quad of the dorm has a living room area and big screen TV to watch TV.
-
The game room located in the basement has: Pool Table, Ping Pong Table, Basketball Court, Volleyball Court.

Every night at Holton Hooker Dorm we will do a camp fire and smores and music before bed.
Pool
-
One night all girls will have the option to use the pool for an hour during night time activity.
-
One night the boys will have the option to use the pool for an hour during night time activity.
-
This is only one option along with Basketball, Sane Volleyball, and hanging out with other campers watching.
-
GVSU will provide lifeguards as well as some our full time camp staff on duty during pool time.
-
Swim Suits and towels need to be brought from home if interested in pool time at camp.
Event Specific Training Group: High Jump/ Long Jump

Individual Jumps coaches will bring all athletes through jump technique sessions.
-
High jumpers will break off in their own group and work HJ specific technique.
-
Long Jumpers will break off in their own group and work LJ specific technique.
-
Bring training shoes as well as jumping spikes to camp.
Event Specific Training Group: Pole Vault
-
Individual pole vault coaches will bring all athletes through vault technique sessions.
-
This is not the camp for kids that have NEVER pole vaulted before.
-
GVSU has 100’s of pole of all sizes. If campers want to bring their own poles that is allowed but not mandatory.
-
The majority of camp will be spent teach vault technique via straight pole and short approach drills.
-
Four day camps in the summer when you do two sessions a day is not the best time to grip-it and rip-it.
-
Kids will be tired and run down after the first few session so we focus of technique.
-
We will be going into the pool for under water pool vaulting and into the gymnastics room to work PV technique on the Rings and Rope.
-
Please pack a bathing suit or workout gear you can use in the pool.
Event Specific Training Group: Throws
-
Throwers do NOT do running workouts… JUST THROW😊
-
Individual Throw coaches will bring all athletes through throw technique sessions.
-
PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN SHOT OUTS AND OR DISCUS!
-
We have 6-8 throwing circles and may more place to work footwork for throwers.
-
We will do one session for people that are interested in learning the Hammer or Javelin.
-
Each circle will be broken down to 8-15 thrower on each with a coach in charge of each group.
Event Specific Training Group: Sprints/Hurdles
-
Individual Sprints/Hurdles coaches will bring all athletes through Sprit/Hurdle technique sessions.
-
Basic sprint technique and biomechanics will be taught to all sprinters/hurdlers.
-
Hurdlers will split and do hurdle technique in a separate group session.
-
Relays and Turn starts will be spilt into a separate group session.
-
Bring both training shoes and spikes to camp.
Camp Demographics

We are expecting another large camp. The last two years we have had over 220 campers.
-
Most athletes are coming from Michigan but we had just over 50 athlete from out of state.

Pole Vaulters: 20-30 Athletes

Long Jumpers: 15-20 Athletes

High Jumpers: 20-25 Athletes

Throwers: 50-60 Athletes

Sprinters: 80-90 Athletes

GVSU Full-Time Coaching Staff: 6

GVSU Current Student-Athletes: 25

College Coaches from the Midwest: 10

We use the entire campus at camp.

Stay in one of the dorms.
-
Eat in one of the cafeterias.

Use Indoor track Stadium.
-
Use Outdoor Track Stadium.

Use GVSU Pool.
-
Use GVSU Lecture halls and classrooms for meetings and speakers.
